Syz Group has relaunched Syz Capital, its alternatives business, as a dedicated private equity platform, and has hired David Weintraub (pictured) to be its CEO.
Syz Capital will offer direct investments in European small and mid-cap B2B firms. It also has a private equity programme, which will provide investors with a diversified portfolio of privately-owned companies run by specialist investment managers.
New CEO Weintraub joins the firm from KIRKBI, the private investment holding company behind LEGO Group, where he was investment director. He also serves as a board member of medical resource firm AMBOSS and online learning platform Kahoot!.

Prior to joining Syz, Weintraub spent almost four years at Alantra, formerly N + 1 Swiss Capital, where he latterly served as an associate within the M&A advisory space. He has also served as a business analyst at Credit Suisse.
Elsewhere across Syz, its legal assets business will separate from the group through a management buyout, and will become Hykra Capital SA. Founder Oliver Maurice and the rest of the team will all move to the new company.
Commenting on Weintraub’s appointment, Eric Syz, CEO of Syz Group, said: “We are delighted to welcome David Weintraub to Syz Capital. His appointment marks an important step as we position the business into a dedicated private equity platform.
“Alternative investments remain a core conviction of Syz Group, and this sharper focus will allow us to build on our strengths, create greater value for clients and pursue attractive long-term growth opportunities.”
Weintraub added he is “excited to join the firm and help drive its next phase of growth”.
“Syz Capital is built on a strong foundation and guided by a clear strategic direction. By focusing exclusively on private equity, we are sharpening our expertise and creating a platform that is well positioned to deliver attractive opportunities for our clients and partners.”
