George Ensor, manager of the River UK Microcap trust, has issued his resignation, according to a London Stock Exchange announcement this morning (22 July).

Ensor will continue to manage the portfolio in the interim as the board seeks a suitable successor and assesses the best interests of shareholders.

He has managed the portfolio since 2018, during which it has delivered muted returns, up just 1.7%. However, medium to short-term results have been more promising, with the portfolio up 65% in the past three months, outpacing the Deutsche Numis Smaller Companies plus AIM’s 24.8% return.

The news comes following Liontrust’s acquisition of parent firm River Global Holdings, during which it has acquired River UK Micro Cap, according to a LSEG announcement this morning.

Before his role as portfolio manager, Ensor served as a UK equity analyst at River Global and an investment manager at Smith & Williamson Investment Management.
