Mirabaud Asset Management has hired TrinityBridge’s Giles Parkinson, and Border to Coast Pension Partnership’s Will Ballard, ahead of launching a new global equity strategy.

Parkinson (pictured left) had previously spent five years as the head of equities at TrinityBridge. Prior to this, he worked alongside Ballard at Aviva Investors, where he was a portfolio manager on the Global Equity Endurance fund for six years. Parkinson has also held portfolio manager and analyst roles at Artemis and Newton Investment Management, respectively.

Ballard also spent five years as head of equities, but at Border to Coast. He worked at Aviva Investors for 12-and-a-half years, latterly as head of emerging market and Asia Pacific equities.

Prior to his time here, Ballard worked as an analyst for the Royal Bank of Canada, and as a fund manager on Janus Henderson’s Global Special Situations and Pan European Special Situations funds.

The two will run a benchmark-aware global equity strategy, focused on individual stock selection while avoiding accidental sectoral, style or regional bias. They will seek high-quality companies with improving fundamentals and a sustainable competitive advantage. The strategy will launch on 1 October.

Parkinson and Ballard will report in to Mirabaud Asset Management’s CIO Andrew Lake.

Umberto Boccato, CEO of Mirabaud Asset Management, said: “Will and Giles bring deep institutional experience and a shared investment philosophy that aligns well with Mirabaud’s long-term, active approach.

“Their appointment supports the optimisation of our equity range and brings together complementary expertise to build a focused and compelling global equity strategy for clients.”

Ballard added Mirabaud “felt like a natural home for the pair”.

“Its combination of Swiss heritage, independence and long-term thinking closely reflects how we approach investing,” he said.

Parkinson said it’s “time to recognise that equity market structure has changed. Index concentration has increased and stocks have become more volatile inside the index.

“Joining Mirabaud gives us the opportunity to develop a strategy that tackles these challenges and meets the needs of today’s investors.”
