Schroders Capital has appointed Bob Paterson as head of European asset-based finance (ABF) and significant risk transfer (SRT) Investments.
He joins from Manulife CQS Investment Management, where he played a key role in building the firm’s ABF platform and supporting the growth of its SRT franchise.
In the newly created role, Paterson (pictured) will lead the origination and execution of European, UK and Australian ABF as well as SRT transactions. He will report to Michelle Russell-Dowe, co-head of PDCA and global head of SP&ABF.
Paterson will also oversee European and UK asset-backed securities (ABS) activity.
He brings over 25 years of experience in the UK, Europe and the US to the firm, with a track record in origination, distribution and capital raising across complex structured credit strategies.

Prior to CQS, he spent over a decade at Lloyds Bank in senior roles, and worked at Morgan Stanley in New York and London.
Russell-Dowe said: “I am thrilled to have Bob on the team. He represents exactly the type of investor that can benefit from a flexible framework and the ability to be dynamic and access the opportunity the market is affording.
“Bob’s experience, leadership and senior presence will continue to emphasize our global presence as well as the continued build-out of our local investment presence in London and Zurich.”
Paterson added: “I am excited to be joining Schroders Capital’s SP&ABF team. As ABF and SRT markets continue to evolve and expand, I look forward to working with the team to further develop the platform to provide clients with strategies that meet their growing demand for income, diversification, and structurally robust credit exposure.”
