Quilter Investors has promoted Dean Bowden to managing director of the group allowing chief executive Paul Simpson to work closer with the investment team.
Bowden, currently chief commercial officer, will be responsible for the day-to-day running of operations in his new role. The move is effective immediately and he will continue his existing duties as well when he takes on the MD role.
Simpson will remain CEO but will formally become director of investments. He had taken on the responsibilities of Anthony Gillham, who had been head of investments, when he left in May.
At the time, concerns were raised about how Simpson would juggle the investment responsibilities with being CEO.
Bowden played key role in managed separation
Simpson said Bowden had been “instrumental” in establishing the multi-asset arm of Quilter as a standalone business.
He said: “I am really looking forward to working even closer with him, and the investment team, as we look to execute on an ambitious growth strategy in 2020 and beyond.”
Before the managed separation of Old Mutual, Simpson was head of alternatives at Old Mutual Global Investors. He had joined Old Mutual in 2006 as co-manager of the European Statistical Arbitrage and Global Statistical Arbitrage funds.
Bowden said he was looking forward to taking the lead on day-to-day operations. “This last year has shown that Quilter Investors is well established to design and build investment solutions that deliver for advisers and their clients.”
Over the last 18 months, the business has finalised its separation from Merian Global Investors, recruited Helen Bradshaw to launch a pair of multi-asset income funds and expanded the Cirilium portfolios with a blended active/passive range.
Bowden joined Skandia Investment Group in 2007. In 2015, he became proposition and commercial director at OMGI before becoming chief commercial officer at Quilter Investors upon its formation.
