Freeman takes over as head of Premier Wealth Planning, overseeing the independent wealth manager’s national IFA operation, and is joined by nine members of his former team.

Scott Ellis, Gareth Helyer, Gareth Morris, Kate Nield, Mike Smith and Andrew Wakely have substantial experience in wealth management and independent advice – they will be supported by Rebekah Pettersson and Lisa Taynton, who also moved from Barclays.

Freeman’s previous role was as South West regional director for Barclays Wealth.

Premier’s managing director Paul Couchman lauded the appointments, saying they will be integral to the growth of the organisation.

“To have a team of such calibre join the business is a major coup for Premier,” he said.

“Working closely with our existing team, they will play a key role in expanding our presence across Bristol, the South West, and Wales. These appointments build on Premier’s success in expanding its IFA coverage on across the country.”

Barclays assured clients that despite the departures they remain committed to their clients and sustaining long-term growth.

A spokesperson said: “Barclays Wealth and Investment Management remains a critical capability within personal and corporate banking. The underlying business is in great shape, thanks to its commitment to position the business for sustainable long-term growth, and we remain focused on hiring and promoting talent in target markets around the world. Serving our clients continues to be at the heart of everything that we do.”
