The past week has been one of stark contrasts for the two sides of the ‘special relationship’ in economic terms.

That the economic link between the two powers is at least stretched is beyond serious dispute at this point, but what this means for asset allocators and investors of all stripes is very much open to argument.

The obvious move should you believe this decoupling is here to stay or will even accelerate, is to trim back UK equities holdings in favour of American stocks.

Whether a broad sweep like this is the answer, or a more precise trimming and tweaking within allocations is what is needed is something there is likely to be little consensus on at this stage.
