Murphy has over 23 years of investment experience and his particular areas of focus include investment for private clients, family offices, charities and trusts as well as advising many individuals on investments for their Sipp.
Additional responsibilities in his prior role saw him involved with asset allocation and charity committees.
Smith & Williamson have appointed him for his bespoke approach, on which he said: “In light of recent markets, it’s particularly important to be able to draw from a very wide range of global investments – which we can at Smith & Williamson. This gives me the best opportunity to agree a set of investments with a client which meets their needs and attitude to risk.”
In recent months, Smith & Williamson has made five senior appointments to its City investment team, bringing the number of investment directors across the group to over 110, of which approximately 70 are based in the Moorgate office.
Recent recruits include Fergus Caheny, Mark Burnyeat and Rae Brooks as investment management directors together with Nick Travis as investment manager. Fergus, Mark and Nick Travis joined from Kleinwort Benson while Rae Brooks was previously with Credit Agricole Asset Management.
