Mobius Capital Partner co-founder Greg Konieczny is set to retire just two years after helping Mark Mobius’ boutique business get off the ground.

Konieczny’s retirement was announced in a trading update for the £103.6m Mobius Investment Trust, which he co-manages alongside fellow partners Mobius and Carlos Hardenberg.

Koniezcny left Franklin Templeton after more than 22 years in March 2018, not long after Hardenberg, to help set up Mobius’ emerging market boutique in 2018. That September the trio of partners launched the firm’s sole investment trust, only raising half of its £200m investment target.

Commenting on Koniezcny’s decision to step down Mobius Capital Partners said: “We want to thank him for his contribution over the last two years, and we wish him well.

“We are very confident that Mark and Carlos’s extensive combined investment experience and close collaboration over the last 20 years will ensure that Mobius Capital Partners continues on its path to delivering strong investment returns over the years to come”.

The firm said it is currently looking to expand the investment team with future hires to “take advantage of the unique talent which is currently available in the market”.

Mobius Investment Trust has bounced back since the worst of the coronavirus sell-off, the firm added in the update. Since 24 March 2020 the trust is up 30.3% on a NAV basis, while its share price has risen 47.1%. Over the same timeframe the IT Global Emerging Markets sector is up just 18.4%.
