Ian Hargreaves, Invesco’s co-head of Asian and emerging market equities at Invesco, is set to step back from the firm, effective 31 March 2027, the firm announced today.

From this date, leadership and management will change across Hargreaves’ range of funds, including the Invesco Asia Dragon trust, as well as the Invesco Asian Equity, Invesco Global Emerging Markets Equity, Invesco Emerging Markets Equity and Invesco Developing Markets funds.

Until his retirement, Hargreaves will continue to work closely with the existing team on all of the funds. William Lam will remain co-head of the team when Hargreaves departs, while Charles Bond will also be appointed co-head at the start of 2027.

Hargreaves said: “After 32 years with Invesco, I feel that now is the right time for me to retire.

“I leave with absolute confidence in the strength and depth of talent within the Asia and EM team, and in their commitment to delivering for clients for many years to come.”

Sergey Davalchenko, CIO of global and international equities at Invesco, added: “Ian is a highly respected investment leader whose expertise, insight, and disciplined approach have delivered significant value for our clients and our business.

“I’d like to thank Ian for his dedication and many contributions over his 32 years at Invesco and wish him the enjoyment he deserves in his retirement.”

According to data from FE fundinfo, since 2004 (the earliest date available) Hargreaves has delivered a 340.7% total return to investors as of 31 August 2026, compared to a peer group average of just 284.2%.

Commenting on the impact of his departure on his associated trusts, Matthew Read, senior analyst at QuotedData, said: “Ian Hargreaves has long been associated with Invesco Asia Dragon, so his departure may feel like the end of an era.

“However, he has worked alongside Fiona Yang since 2022, with Yang taking over as lead manager in 2024.”

Since the reins had already been mostly handed over, Read said retirement felt like a natural next step, and any transition should be smooth for the Invesco range.
