Hayes has managed Axa’s Sterling Strategic Bond Fund since joining Axa IM in June 2010, and will be supported in his new responsibility by Julie Lamirel who has been back-up fund manager with Zemek on the corporate bond fund.

In November Axa IM confirmed it was to launch a Global Strategic Bond Fund for Hayes in the New Year.

Chris Iggo, chief investment officer and senior bond strategist will help advise Hayes on the global offering, as he is his direct report.

Last year Zemek was appointed as a member of Axa IM’s management board and she is also global head of fixed income.

Recently she has been vocal in press reports surrounding the Evershed vs. New Star case, in which Patrick Evershed was pursuing his former employer for unfair dismissal.

Zemek was previously CIO at New Star and left in 2007 prior to its takeover by Henderson. During the Evershed case she gave a witness statement which agreed with much of Evershed’s allegations about John Duffield, the pair’s boss at New Star.

Hayes also worked at New Star/Henderson New Star, where he was a senior fund manger in the fixed income team from 2003.

The changes to Axa’s fixed income fund range were effective from 1 December.
