Gardiner will join the firm on August 18th, Rothschild says and will report to Veit de Maddalena and Richard Martin, global co-heads of the group’s wealth management & trust business and Mark Kary, head of Rothschild’s wealth management business in the UK.

According Rothschild, Gardiner will play a prominent role in its global investment committee and will work closely with the group’s senior investment staff.

“The macro investment advice he provides will be an important part of Rothschild’s investment thinking and portfolio construction, having a direct impact on client portfolios and supporting a broader range of investment research,” it said.

According to de Maddalena and Martin, the new role is “fundamental” to Rothschild’s investment ethos – one that focuses on wealth preservation and providing real returns.

Before taking the role, Gardiner was at Barclays Wealth & Investment Management, which he joined in 2009. "Kevin Gardiner decided to leave Barclays Wealth and Investment Management earlier this year.  We wish him well in his future role.  His successor will be announced in due course,” Barclays said in a statement.
