Columbia Threadneedle has appointed Richard Borthwick, head of UK regional sales at the firm, to a newly created role as head of UK wealth solutions.

Borthwick will continue to lead the regional sales team but will now oversee engagement with UK wealth management consolidators and will work with senior leadership teams on commercial partnerships.

He has been with the firm for almost 12 years, having joined initially as a regional sales manager for discretionary firms in 2014. Before this, he spent six years at Kames Capital as a business development manager and consultant.

As industry consolidation in the wealth market has risen, Columbia Threadneedle has focused on partnering with both consolidators and independent firms, while trying to serve traditional fund buyers, the team said.

Mike O’Toole, head of UK wholesale distribution at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, said: “As consolidation reshapes the advice market, the ability to combine investment expertise with practical business support is becoming increasingly important.

“This enhanced structure ensures our distribution team is aligned to changing market dynamics, with a clear focus on driving growth, strengthening adviser partnerships and delivering for clients.”
