As revealed by Portfolio Adviser in October, the US firm is aiming to increase its presence in the UK and Europe during 2017.
The Cohen & Steers Active Commodities Fund will focus on exposure to global exchange-traded futures contracts across the energy, industrial metals, agriculture, livestock and precious metal sectors.
The firm also plans to add a ‘preferred securities’ fund by the end of Q1, as well. It already had three funds available to UK and European investors, a European real estate securities fund, a global real estate securities fund and a global listed infrastructure fund.
Senior vice-president Mark Haynes said it was the right time to launch the new commodities fund as the asset class was seeing a broad and sustainable recovery after prices hit 14-year lows in January 2016.
“Commodities offer an attractive long-term total return profile supported by the mega-trend of demand growth from developing countries,” Haynes said.
Cohen & Steers, which specialises in real estate, infrastructure and commodities, has $56.5bn in assets under management, predominantly in the US, but said the UK and Europe is a “critical” wealth investment market for the firm.
