A founding partner of Cheviot, Beck spent 10 years at the merged company Quilter Cheviot, sitting on the fund selection committee and chairing the alternative investments committee.

His background likewise spans roles at James Capel Investment Management and Laing & Cruickshank Investment Management, which was absorbed by UBS Wealth Management.

Beck is the second Quilter Cheviot man JH&P has poached within the last six months and the latest in the firm’s recent spate of hires, which also includes former Waverton US and global equity markets specialist, William Francklin.

This latest appointment is another step on the path to realising JH&P’s growth ambitions, explained James Hambro chief executive Andy Steele.

“We’re growing strongly and if we are to maintain the standards that have helped drive that growth, we need to keep attracting the very best people to the team.”

The firm now oversees over £2bn in assets since its launch in 2010 and last year, relocated to larger offices in Pall Mall to accommodate an expanding team.

Steele added: “James Beck has a wealth of experience, is very well respected in the industry and his knowledge of investments and especially alternatives will further enhance our management expertise.”

Jamie Hambro the group’s chairman said: “Over the last six years we have achieved some significant milestones and with these latest appointments we are demonstrating our commitment to further strong, sustainable growth.”
