The firm appointed John Redpath, Julie Crombie and Barry McGowan as chartered financial planners to be based in its Edinburgh office.

All three were previously at Towry, which became part of Tilney following its acquisition in 2016.

Redpath joins with 27 years’ experience having worked the majority of that time at Aviva, focusing on individual client financial planning needs.

Likewise, Crombie also joins with experience in financial planning and has worked for companies including Bradford & Bingley. She left Tilney in December 2017.

Meanwhile, McGowan began his career in 1974 with Scottish Widows before moving on to a broker consultant role in 1980. He then switched in to an IFA role in 1987 and becoming partner in his eponymous business in 1997. That was later acquired by Towry in 2007.

Although McGowan stayed with the firm throughout the Tilney acquisition, he left in January 2018.

Andrew Meigh (pictured), managing director of financial planning at Charles Stanley, said: “People’s financial needs are always evolving, but in recent years the awareness of the complexities around those needs has increased also – bringing with it a surge in demand for financial planning advice.

“John, Julie and Barry joining will boost the team’s ability to work with individuals and families looking to address their financial needs of today and tomorrow, such as phased retirement, long-term care, school fees, winding up businesses ahead of retirement, estate planning and inheritance tax mitigation.”

This news follows Charles Stanley’s double hire in January to boost its business in the intermediary and charities and trusts markets.
