CG Asset Management has promoted Emma Moriarty to named fund manager across the firm’s multi-asset range, including the £803bn Capital Gearing Trust.

In her newly expanded role, Moriarty (pictured) will manage the capital gearing trust and CGAM’s other multi-asset range alongside co-CIOs Chris Clothier and Peter Spiller. She has previously served as fund manager on bond funds at the firm, including the CG Real Return and CG Dollar funds.

Alastair Laing, CEO of CGAM, said: “Emma’s promotion to the role of a named fund manager is extremely well-deserved, reflecting the seniority and skill with which she acts on behalf of our investors.

“Her macroeconomic experience, particularly her expertise in fixed income and index-linked bonds, is an excellent complement to the skills already held within the team.”

This news comes as Laing also pivots from his former role as co-manager at the firm to focus more on his work as CEO, according to today’s announcement.

Moriarty has over a decade of experience in financial markets, having joined the CGAM team in 2022 as an investment professional. Before that, she spent eight years at the Bank of England as an analyst and economist.

Matthew Read, senior analyst at QuotedData, praised the efforts to build sufficient depth around manager Spiller, who is often closely associated with Capital Gearing Trust.

“She [Moriarty] has already spent four years working alongside Spiller and Clothier and, crucially, this formalises a role she is largely performing.

“For a trust whose appeal rests heavily on consistency and preservation of capital, that gradual evolution is exactly what shareholders should want to see and we wish Emma and the wider team every success,” Read concluded.
