Aberdeen Investments has bolstered its senior equity team with an external hire and internal promotion.

Firstly, Herman Bots has joined the team as global head of equities, after 17 years at pension investor APG. In his new role, he will report to Aberdeen CIO Peter Branner and is set to join in July.

He replaces Devan Kaloo, former global head of global equities, who will shift his focus towards emerging market portfolios and other interests.

Kaloo said: “Through growth, challenge, and one or two extraordinary macro events, I’m pleased to hand over at a time of meaningfully improved performance, sharper focus from the leadership, and greater stability.

“Now I’m looking forward to refocusing on what I love — running emerging markets portfolios — while starting to do more of other things outside work.”

In Bots’ previous position at APG, he was responsible for actively developing market equities between 2011 and 2022.

Branner said: “He [Bots] is an exceptional investor and people leader, with a keen eye on innovation, technology and tools.”

Bots added: “I am passionate about equity investing, and it’s exciting to join one of the UK’s leading wealth and investments groups.”

Meanwhile, the team has also been promoting internally, with Nick Robinson named as the new head of global emerging market equities. Previously, he served as deputy for the team as well as head of Brazilian equities at the firm.

He has spent 25 years with the Aberdeen team, 18 of which have been focused on EM equities.
