Beesley will start on 2 April and joins from boutique investment firm Trinity Street Asset Management where he had been partner and portfolio manager since 2008.
Prior to that role he was at JPMorgan, which he joined in 2002 and before that at Mercury Asset Management from 1997, which was taken over by Merrill Lynch.
Trinity Street is a specialist manager of global equity funds and Beesley held global equity roles at JPM and Merrill Lynch as well.
Rogan moved over to Henderson with the acquisition of Gartmore in 2011, where he had worked since 1997.
He was appointed head of international equities at Gartmore in 1999 and had responsibility for the global, Japanese, American and Pacific and emerging markets equities teams.
Poor performance
Currently Rogan manages the £206m Henderson Global Focus Fund, a strategy he has managed since inception at Gartmore in 2001 and which is ranked fourth quartile across one, two, three, four and five years, according to the fund’s factsheet.
Management of the fund will fall to Beesley upon Rogan’s departure, which Henderson said is motivated by the desire to spend more time with his young family.
Rogan will stay at Henderson for a handover period, although a spokesperson at Henderson said Beesley would have his own approach and perspective on running money.
Graham Kitchen, head of equities at Henderson, said: "While we are sorry that Neil is leaving, we understand his decision and wish him all the best.
"Global equities is an important part of our business. Matt will boost the team not only in providing a new perspective but also in terms of the experience he has managing money on behalf of a broad range of international clients and the strong record he has built."
