Lomholt will assume responsibility for overseeing the continued development of Vanguard’s products range in Europe and for managing its exchange-traded fund (ETF) capital markets team.
Vanguard launched its first ETFs in Europe back in May, when it listed five physically backed products on the London Stock Exchange. Since then, the range has gathered about £170m in assets under management.
Most recently Lomholt was the managing director and head of product development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at iShares, the ETF arm of BlackRock. He has also held the role of head of indexing at HSBC Global Asset Management.
Lomholt will join Vanguard’s Europe management team at the firm’s London office and report to managing director Tom Rampulla.
Rampulla commented: “We are pleased to welcome Axel Lomholt to Vanguard. Axel will be a great advocate for low-cost investing as investors increasingly embrace high quality, transparent and low-cost funds at the core of their portfolios.”
