Wiggins joins from Threadneedle where he was head of UK institutional client relationships.
Prior that he was director of client relations at AllianceBernstein and also spent eight years as a principal at Mercer.
In the newly created role, Wiggins will assume leadership of the UK institutional business development team and will also be a member of the AllianzGI European business development team.
He joins just a week after AllianzGI announced an adaptation of its fund range, which included the closure of three UK-focused equity funds.
