David Keir has joined Saracen Fund Managers as head of research as the firm looks to build on its research base.

Keir was previously investment director and head of research at Scottish Widows Investment Partnes (SWIP), but was made redundant along with 27 other investment managers following the decision to use computer-based quantitative investment strategies across many of its equities portfolios.

He will report to Graham Campbell, and will work with the investment teams managing the Saracen Global Income & Growth Fund and the Saracen Growth Fund.

The Global Income & Growth Fund is headed up by Campbell and Daniel Leaf, and has £22m under management. Europe currently accounts for the largest proportion of capital, 38%, and the fund’s top 10 holdings include Johnson & Johnson, Unilever and Nestle.
