Pickard left Carmignac earlier this year having managed its £1bn Emergents fund and the equities component with its Emerging Patrimoine portfolio. He was the firm’s head of emerging market equities.
Cole was Pickard’s co-manager on Emerging Patrimoine, having joined the firm originally as an analyst in February 2013.
Pickard said: “We and Man GLG believe the investment opportunity in emerging markets is significant, providing us with the potential to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns for investors.
“As such, Edward and I intend on making substantial personal investments in the strategy. I am very much looking forward to working with a team that has such a strong track-record and collaborative culture.”
Man GLG’s co-CEO Teun Johnston said the Unconstrained Emerging Equity strategy would form a “key pillar” in the development of its long-only business.
“Simon and Edward are highly experienced investors and will be a great addition to our firm as we expand our investment capability and product offering. We are delighted to welcome Simon and Edward to Man GLG,” he said.
