Ring replaces Campbell Flemming, who became CEO at the start of March. He will be responsible for leading the firm’s sales, client service, marketing and product development programmes.
Ring joined Threadneedle in 2008 as head of global product, and before that he spent nine years at Northern Trust. He has also worked at KPMG, Gartmore and Prudential.
Fleming commented: “Nick has been a core member of the leadership team within distribution since he joined the company almost five years ago. As global head of product he has been responsible for creating and implementing an integrated product strategy, ensuring that our product range provides high quality, compelling solutions for clients.
"In particular he oversaw the successful launch of Threadneedle’s commodity products and the establishment of a strong absolute return range. Since mid-2011, Nick has also led our North American Distribution, working both directly in the marketplace and with Columbia Management, Ameriprise’s US-based asset manager, to extend access to Threadneedle’s capabilities in the region. “
