Pursglove was one of a number of high-profile staff that did not join Henderson from Gartmore after the latter’s takeover earlier this year.

His counterpart Phil Wagstaff, who worked as Gartmore’s head of global distribution, was another.

Previous to Gartmore, Pursglove worked at Cazenove Capital Management as sales director.

In his new rold at GSAM, Pursglove will report to Nick Phillips, head of third party distribution in EMEA.

Pursglove said: "The UK industry is facing some significant challenges from both an economic and distribution perspective. I believe that GSAM’s breadth of product and global distribution capabilities are a great fit with the evolving needs of clients in the UK."

GSAM is the asset management arm of the Goldman Sachs Group, which manages $841bn as at end of June 2011.
