He had intended to launch another round but this plan has been shelved due to “continuing uncertainty prevailing in markets” meaning it is not an appropriate time to raise capital in his view.

Shares in the trust were valued at 89.76p on Tuesday morning. The net asset value was 97.38p per share.

In the update for investors Woodford also reported that the trust is now fully invested, and said the range of investment opportunities available has been “better, deeper and richer than initially thought.”

The board of the trust will propose a dividend of 0.16p per share, it was also revealed.

The dividend payment “may come as a surprise to some investors” Woodford said, but he pointed out it is necessary for the company to distribute excess income if it wishes to retain its status as an investment trust.
