Waverton Investment Management has hired a head of sales support from Smith and Williamson.

Julian Polnik has joined the firm’s intermediary sales team, reporting to Waverton director and head of intermediary Mark Barrington.

At Smith and Williamson, Polnik was a senior business development manager and, according to the S&W website, was instrumental in launching the firm’s managed portfolio service to IFAs in September 2012.

Polnik has also held positions at UBS Wealth Management and Close Brothers Asset Management, where he established a discretionary portfolio management service specifically for financial advisers.

His career in financial services began in 1997 at Credit Lyonnais Rouse working in commodity derivatives before he joined Laing and Cruickshank where he managed private client portfolios.

Barrington said Polnik brings a “wealth of experience and knowledge of working with financial advisers”.

“We look forward to introducing Julian to our adviser partners,” he added.

Polnik said: “Waverton’s model portfolio service has performed strongly compared to the peer average, since the start of this year.

“The managed costs and low fees are particularly attractive to clients in a low return environment, and I am looking forward to working with both Mark and the rest of the team at Waverton to take the offering even further.”
