At BlackRock, Wharrier co-managed both the £412m BlackRock UK Income fund and the £50m Income and Growth investment trust.

He will join Troy in October and work alongside Francis Brooke and Hugo Ure, the existing lead and assistant managers on both the Trojan Income fund and the Troy Income & Growth Trust.

At BlackRock, David Goldman, who co-manages the open-ended UK Income fund with Wharrier and Adam Avigdori, has been appointed co-manager of the investment trust alongside current co-manager Avigdori with immediate effect.

Prior to joining BlackRock in 2013, Wharrier worked at NewSmith Asset Management, having joined the industry in 1994 working at Mercury Asset Management (which later became Merrill Lynch Investment Managers).

Commenting on the appointment, Brooke said: “The Troy UK equity income franchise has grown significantly in recent years and incorporates not only the Trojan Income Fund and the Troy Income & Growth Trust, but a number of other important mandates. The addition of a third experienced fund manager will strengthen our team and both Hugo and I are delighted that Mark is joining us.

“I have known Mark for many years and his investment approach and style is highly complementary to our own. He brings significant investment experience and has an excellent track record in managing UK equity income portfolios.”
