Towry hands chairman role to exNorthern Rock exec

Current chairman Gerald Corbett steps down following his appointment as chairman of Numis, a role he takes on 8 May. Corbett however will continue to act in his role as chairman at Towry until the end of May. 
 
Sandler was formerly executive chairman of Northern Rock, as well as chairman of Phoenix Group and chairman of Paternoster. Prior to these roles, he was engaged as chief operating officer of NatWest Group, and chief executive of Lloyd’s of London. 
 
At the same time, Geoff Unwin has been appointed as non-executive director of the firm. Unwin is chairman of XChanging, with previous roles as chairman of United Business Media and Halma. 
 
The appointments ofSandler and Unwin are still pending for FCA approval.
 
Last year, Towry bought Aberdeenshire-based Conclusion Financial Planning in September, the fourth acquisition by the business in 2013. The deal bought Towry 50 clients and £15m of assets under management, making one of the most acquisitive groups in the regions last year, along with IFA consolidator Bellpenny.
