State Street Global Advisors appointed Ann Prendergast as head of EMEA to succeed Rory Tobin, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Prendergast joined State Street in 2000, beginning as a relationships manager and becoming head of State Street Global Advisors Europe. In her current role, she manages European Union distribution, product development, fund and portfolio management.

She will continue to lead the Global Advisors Europe team in her new role, as well as managing the strategic direction in Europe and a team of 500. Prendergast will be based out of the Dublin office.

Yie-Hsin Hung, CEO of State Street Global Advisors, said: “I’m excited to announce Ann’s appointment. She will be responsible for spearheading our growth aspirations and building on SSGA’s strong position in Europe.

“Ann brings a deep understanding of our business to her new responsibilities, having spent more than two decades of her career with our firm. I am confident that we will benefit greatly from her deep industry knowledge, strong client orientation, regulatory experience and leadership strengths.”

Prendergast also currently serves as a council member on the Irish Association of Pension Funds.

“I’m proud to lead our business in the EMEA region,” Prendergast added. “There is a significant opportunity ahead of us to strengthen our existing franchises and client relationships, while also focusing on new strategic areas. I look forward to working with the team to pursue our growth ambitions.”

Tobin announced his retirement from the role in June of this year following nine years with the company. As of September 30, State Street managed $3.69trn (£2.94trn) in assets.
