The fund is expected to be run by Harry Nimmo who already runs the £1.3bn UK Small Companies Fund which the firm is currently planning to soft close at the end of the summer. In July the annual fee was raised to 1.6% as part of a wider hike in fund charges by the group.

About the proposed launch, a spokesperson confirmed: “Standard Life Investments is currently looking at the possibility of launching a global small cap equity fund,” but at the moment “he fund concept is still at an early stage and a final decision has yet to made."

Nimmo has run the UK smaller cap fund since launch in January 1997 and this will represent his first foray into running a proposition on global basis.
