Smith and Williamson sharpens family office focus with new hire

Phelps joined the firm on 9 January as a partner from Savills where he was director of family office services.

According to the firm, Phelps has been hired to “build on the well-established presence Smith & Williamson has within the sector by growing client, and intermediary, relationships as well as developing new business opportunities.”

“The development of our family office services is a key component of our business plan,” Joss Dalrymple, head of private client tax and business services at the firm added, “His hire should ensure that the breadth and depth of services, and experience, we have at Smith & Williamson is recognized within the wider family office sphere.”

His appointment follows the retirement last year of Frank Akers-Douglas, chair of the committee that was previously responsible for the firm’s family office business.

Prior to his position at Savills, Phelps held a similar position at BNY Mellon and has close to 20 years’ experience in the financial and wealth management sector.
