The founder of a St James’s Place partner firm based in Jersey has ditched the company to bolster Sanlam’s presence in the north of England.
Paul Clifford (pictured) will be based in the UK wealth manager’s Cumbria office where he will work as a portfolio manager.
In a press release, Sanlam said Clifford was previously managing director for Integritas Wealth, a Jersey-based advice firm he founded in June 2016. Integritas provides bespoke wealth management services, according to its website, and is a member of SJP’s partnership.
But his Linkedin profile shows he left the business in December 2018, not long after its launch, before popping up at another Jersey firm, Vantage, as a wealth manager where he stayed until last July.
Sanlam is Clifford’s sixth employer in the last decade. He has been in the wealth management industry for 18 years.
He has previously worked at Santander Private Banking and RBC Wealth Management and was president of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments’ Jersey committee where he promoted wealth management as a career path to local schools and colleges.
Sanlam Private Wealth CEO Penny Lovell said Clifford’s experience in capital markets make him “the ideal candidate” to expand and strengthen the team in Kirkby Londsale, Cumbria.
“With the Harrogate office nearby, Sanlam’s clients are well-served by the expert teams we have in place in the north and we are excited for what the future holds,” Lovell said.
Clifford will also work closely with Sanlam’s London-based managers servicing clients up north.
The move will see Clifford, who has spent most of his career working in Jersey but is Lancashire-born, return to his roots and allow him to split his time between Cumbria during the working week and Manchester, Portfolio Adviser understands.
Clifford graduated with a BA (Hons) in business administration from Nottingham Trent University and is a chartered wealth manager and fellow of the CISI. He holds the CISI Diploma and the CFA Investment Management Certificate.
