member of Seven Investment Management’s (7IM) top brass has resurfaced at Quilter Investors.

Ian JensenHumphreys, who was most recently 7IM’s deputy CIOwill be joining rival discretionary fund manager Quilter as a portfolio manager.

There he will sit within its 15-strong investment team, working closely with CEO and head of investments Paul Simpson (pictured) to enhance the existing product range and investment processes, a press release announcing his appointment said.

“We have invested considerable time and effort into building a robust and expert portfolio management team with a product range designed to help solve the needs of advisers and their clients,” Simpson said. “We believe that this hire helps to emphasise the work we have achieved as a business.”

Portfolio Adviser revealed JensenHumphreys had departed 7IM back in December. He was one of many senior staffers to leave the business last year as the wealth group conducted a “wide strategic review” following its merger with Scottish manager Tcam.

Three out of four of 7IM’s remaining founders – CFO Charles Sparrow, COO Phillip Bungey and chief executive Tom Sheridan – exited in 2019, while Justin Urquhart Stewart, the last founder standing, announced his retirement.

Jensen-Humphreys joined 7IM from Citigroup in 2016 as a senior investment manager focusing on derivatives and alternatives within the multi-asset team and was co-manager on the 7IM Real Return fund.

He became interim CIO in November 2017 after Chris Darbyshire abruptly left following disagreements over the “strategic direction” of the firm but was ultimately replaced by former Credit Suisse UK head of investment Martyn Surguy, who became 7IM’s third CIO in less than a year.

Jensen-Humphreys launched his career at Goldman Sachs in 1999, where he worked for 14 years, eventually becoming a managing director. He is a CFA charterholder.

He said: “I am really excited to join the Quilter Investors team and the wider group at what is an important juncture in the investment world. The business is rightly recognised for its expertise in multi-asset investment solutions and given recent market developments these products are likely to come to the fore thanks to their diversified nature. As such this is a great opportunity for me to collaborate and contribute to what is a highly ambitious company.”
