Schroders has appointed energy sector specialist Mark Lacey to co-manage its ISF Global Energy and ISF Small Cap Energy funds alongside current manager John Coyle.

Lacey joins from Mercuria Global Energy Solutions, a commodities trader, and has 17 years’ investment experience in the sector.

Prior to Mercuria, he worked for Investec Asset Management on its GSF Global Energy and GSF Enhanced Global Energy funds, where he started in 2008.

The Investec Global Energy Fund has top quartile performance over three and five years, which includes his tenure, while the Enhanced Global Energy Fund is third quartile over three years.

Coyle has managed the Schroder ISF Global Energy Fund since June 2006 and has underperformed the benchmark over one, three and five years – posting negative returns over each period.

He has run the Schroder ISF Global Small Cap Energy Fund since May 2010 and has underperformed the benchmark over one and three years – also posting negative returns over both these periods.

In his new role Lacey will report to Peter Harrison, global head of equities at Schroder, and will work with the global and international equities team providing specialist energy analysis and stock recommendations.
