Owen has moved into the newly-created role from his position of CEO at Invista Real Estate Investment Management, where he was also a founder.

He will report to William Hill, head of property at Schroders.

In its latest quarterly factsheet the Invista Foundation Property Trust said it had entered into a non-binding heads of agreement to appoint Schroders to manage its portfolio.

Following that it had received a merger approach from Picton Property Income, but it decided to reject this in favour of the Schroders deal, which was subject to the asset manager recruiting key members of the exiting Invista management team.

Before founding Invista Real Estate Investment Management in 2006 Owen was managing director of the property division at Insight Investment and prior to that was a founding partner of Gatehouse Investment Management.

Schroders and Owen are also reported to have competed for the mandate of the Invista European Real Estate Trust, which eventually went to Picton Property Income.

A spokesperson at Schroders confirmed the Invista Foundation Property Trust would be under the firm’s management as of midnight on 13 January.
