Schroders is acting in line with the sentiment of the vast majority of UK-based wealth managers as it has recently increased its emerging markets capability thanks to the recruitment of Craig Botham from the Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA).

His hire comes at a time when wealth managers are looking to significantly up their exposure to emerging markets, as indicated by 60% of wealth manager delegates at the recent Portfolio Adviser Congress.

Botham joined the firm in June to take on the brand new role as an emerging market economist.

He will report directly to Keith Wade as chief economist and work alongside Azad Zangana, Schroders’ European economist.

Wade, in a global role, also provides the economic analysis for the UK, the US as well as developed Asia.

Botham was previously part of the macroprudential analysis team at the PRA focusing specifically on country risk. Prior to this he had a similar role with the FSA that included a secondment to the International Monetary Fund where he monitored and reported on market relevant events for EMEA and developed market sovereigns.
