The Covid pandemic has created more opportunities for investors to tap into companies providing products and services to meet the demands of a growing population of emerging market consumers, says PGIM Jennison Emerging Markets Equity fund manager Sara Moreno.
In the latest Portfolio Adviser video interview, Moreno explains how lockdown and social distancing measures implemented during the pandemic have buoyed EM companies that operate in areas such as consumer technology, communication services and healthcare.
She also singles out online grocery, e-commerce, and cloud computing, as well as online video, education and healthcare, as early winners.
And this theme will continue to run once Covid is in the rear-view mirror, Moreno adds.
“We think this is structural and will last beyond Covid. As economies have opened up again, the structural shift has been there; people are not reverting back as fast into the bricks and mortar, they are seeing value in some of these services.”
