Hayes will take over from Alan Mathewson, who will continue to work on the retail distribution side of the business alongside Charlotte Hogg, who will become head of retail distribution and intermediaries at Santander this summer.
Hayes, meanwhile, was previously managing director of Santander Business Banking, having been with the wider group since 2005. Prior to her role in the business banking division she was head of retail products.
She will be responsible for Santander’s on and offshore private banking business, encompassing Cater Allen Private Bank, Santander Private Banking in Jersey and Alliance & Leicester International in the Isle of Man.
Commenting on her appointment, Hayes said Santander UK has “ambitious plans to grow its private banking business”. The bank has also been expanding its asset management business this year following the arrival of former LV= Asset Management multi-managers Tom Caddick and Toby Vaughan.
