Santander AM hires new head of credit

Santander Asset Management UK has appointed a new head of credit, Azim Meghji, who will look after the £977m Sterling Corporate Bond fund.

Meghji moves from HSBC Global Asset Management, where he had overall responsibility for all its credit investment funds in London.

During his time at HSBC Meghji looked after the HSBC Ucits III Sterling Corporate Bond fund and the group’s flagship Global High Income fund, among others.

John Bearman, chief investment officer at Santander, said: "Over the past three years we have invested significantly in our fixed income, equity, multi-manager and research capabilities and Azim’s recruitment is another major step in our development."

Santander Asset Management runs over €141bn across 15 countries and now has more than 600 investment professionals across its teams.

The UK arm of the asset management firm launched in January 2007, when it took control of the companies previously owned by Abbey National.
