Following his departure van der Walt will serve as a strategic consultant to Sanlam, advising on its development, mergers and acquisitions.

van der Walt was instrumental in establishing Sanlam in the UK during his 12 years with the group. He organised the purchase and subsequent development of Merchant Investors Assurance in 2004, as well as Buckles, English Mutual and FOUR Capital Partners.

The former CEO was responsible for Sanlam’s strategic investments and partnering initiatives with Nucleus, Intrinsic and Punter Southall Group. “Lukas has made a significant contribution to Sanlam over the last 12 years,” said Robert Roux, head of Sanlam Investments. “He has overseen our development with a sure and steady hand and for that we are extremely grateful. I am pleased that he will continue to work alongside us during the next stage of our growth, where I have no doubt his knowledge, experience and skill will prove invaluable,” he added.

Jonathan Polin assumed the role of CEO of Sanlam UK on 1 January 2016. “Lukas has done a great job over many years and it’s a privilege to take the reins from him. I look forward to working with him over the coming months,” said Jonathan Polin.
