Pyburn joins the firm this week from Just Retirement, where he spent more than eight years as director of intermediary sales.

In his new role, Pyburn will develop and support the delivery of Sanlam UK’s distribution strategy to advisers who are part of the firm’s partnership programme, Sanlam Partners, launched earlier this year.

As part of this, he will work closely with Sanlam UK head of nationals and networks, Kay Hylton.

Pyburn has more than 25 years’ experience in financial services, including senior roles at State Street Global Advisors, Canada Life and Abbey for Intermediaries (now Santander).

Jonathan Polin, chief executive of Sanlam UK, described Pyburn as  “a highly talented professional with a deep understanding of the adviser market and an exceptional track record in financial services”.

He added: “I look forward to working with John and bringing his significant skill-set to bear as we seek to grow our business and deliver a high quality service to advisers and their clients.”

Pyburn added: “It’s a very exciting time to join Sanlam UK as the business looks to develop its proposition and brand in the adviser market. I understand the unique and often complex challenges advisers face and look forward to working with them to develop a proposition which can help them achieve their business goals while delivering value to their client base.”

Last month Sanlam UK announced it had taken over Tavistock Financial’s network of 158 advisers adding £1.5bn to its total assets under advice.

It also hired Penny Lovell, former head of private client at Close Brothers Asset Management, to launch its private office proposition.
