The recovery period is the best time to be invested in equity income, according to JP Morgan Asset Management portfolio manager Sam Witherow.
In the latest Portfolio Adviser video interview, Witherow, manager of the JPM Global Equity Income fund, says companies are poised to grow dividends after the setback of the pandemic, particularly in Europe.
“The harder you fall, the higher you bounce,” he says.
Elsewhere, he discusses why there are opportunities for generating both alpha and income in the portfolio, and why it pays to look beyond headline yield.
“You have to become less greedy about yield,” he says, noting that overreaching for income can mean dipping into sectors that are facing structural issues, such as telecoms and big oil.
