Based in London, the role is a global one, with his main responsibilities being to lead, support and develop the firm’s responsible investment capabilities [as opposed to, as one commentator pointed out, Russell Investment’s irresponsible investment capabilities…].

He has chaired the Russell Sustainability Council since it was set up three years ago and will ensure that the strategies run are in line with the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment.

Clark is a long-standing Russell employee, joining in 1995, and he leaves his role as a director with the pensions’ solutions group to take on this new position. His pensions’ responsibilities will be shared out among the remainder of the group.

In his welcome to Clark, Pascal Duval, Russell’s EMEA chief executive, referred to the tradition of analysing ESG factors into the strategy’s decision-making.

You can read the detail of these ESG factors here.
