Robo-adviser entrepreneur Gemma Godfrey is joining the board of consolidator firm Independent Wealth Planners to “represent the voice of the customer”.

Godfrey (pictured) will chair IWP’s group investment management division.

IWP chief executive David Inglesfield said she will “represent the voice of the customer” at the wealth consolidator.

“IWP is a business which is built from the bottom up around the excellent commitment to client service of our local firms,” Inglesfield said. “Gemma’s track record as a consumer champion will help us build on this strong heritage as we continue to grow the business.”

Godfrey said she was looking forward to “ensuring the voice of the customer is heard”. “Post-pandemic, people’s priorities will continue to shift towards building the finances to support a more flexible working life.”

Godfrey previously was the founder and chief executive of robo-adviser Moola, which was subsequently closed in early 2020 by its new owners JLT.

She started her career at Goldman Sachs and Gam before becoming head of investment strategy at Brooks Macdonald.

More recently she has been an adviser to Arnold Schwarzenegger on The New Celebrity Apprentice and launched Times Money Mentor for News UK. She is currently advising the Money & Pensions Service on its 10-year strategy to improve the UK’s financial wellbeing.
