Revealed: All the winners at the 2020 PA Wealth Partnership Awards

Quilter Cheviot and Baillie Gifford scoop two awards each

Quilter Cheviot was named Wealth Manager of the Year and Baillie Gifford Asset Manager of the Year at Portfolio Adviser’s inaugural Wealth Partnership Awards today. Quilter Cheviot also picked up the Contribution to Wellbeing award for its Dementia Initiative while Legal & General Investment Management’s Justin Onuekwusi won the Contribution to Inclusivity accolade.

Portfolio Adviser designed the Wealth Partnership Awards to recognise and reward excellence across key elements of the UK’s wealth and asset management businesses – including, crucially, where the two sectors work together in partnership to generate wealth for end-investors.

Other winners from the wealth management sector were Credit Suisse’s Jason Lacey for Individual Rising Star, FE Investments for Business Rising Star and EQ Investors for Fund Selection Team of the Year while the manager research team at Square Mile Investment Consulting & Research was named ESG Advocate of the Year.

Asset management sector winners meanwhile included Baillie Gifford’s US equity desk for Investment Team of the Year and Montanaro Asset Management for Distribution Team of the Year while Federated Hermes picked up the ESG Advocate of the Year award. Ninety One received the Marketing/Digital Initiative of the Year accolade for its renaming and rebranding project.

Earlier this year, Portfolio Adviser invited nominations for individuals, teams and companies in the wealth and asset management sectors who its readers believed had gone the extra mile over the previous year. The hundreds of nominees were then asked to complete a short questionnaire outlining why they thought they should win and the shortlists were created on the strength of these.

“These shortlists – and in some instances, not-so-short lists – gave our judges plenty of food for thought but they were eventually whittled down to a dozen winners,” said Portfolio Adviser group editor Julian Marr. “PA’s Wealth Partnership Awards would not have been possible without the time, insights and efforts of that great panel of industry experts so sincere thanks to all of them – and, just to be clear, no judge had any say in any category in which their company or a colleague was up for an award.”

Chaired by Marr, the judging panel comprised: Mike Barrett, consulting director at The Lang Cat; James Budden, director of marketing and distribution, Baillie Gifford; Bella Caridade-Ferreira, chief executive officer, Fundscape; Sebastian Cheek, editor, Portfolio Adviser; Gillian Hepburn, UK intermediary solutions director, Schroders; Simon Hildrey, chief marketing officer, Liontrust; Chris Jones, proposition director, Dynamic Planner; Dan Kemp, CIO, EMEA, Morningstar IM; James Klempster, director, investment management, Momentum Global Investment; Mandy Kirby, chief strategist, City Hive; Jake Moeller, senior investment consultant, Square Mile Investment Consulting & Research; Lee Robertson, CEO, Octo Members Group; Ben Seager Scott, head of multi-asset funds, Tilney Group; Mark Thomas, head of UK sales, Jupiter Asset Management; and Nick Wood, head of fund research, Quilter Cheviot.
