Mike Webb, chief executive officer at RUTM, said: "The Rathbone Multi-Asset Portfolios have proved extremely popular among clients, and we continue to review our product shelf to ensure it meets demand."

Reports have suggested the fund will be income-focused and targeted at the at-retirement market, but Webb said it remained "far too early" to go into the specifics.

Coombs joined RUTM in 2007 and previously worked at Baring Asset Management for almost 20 years, where he established its absolute return investment process.

Earlier this year RUTM launched the Enhanced Growth Portfolio for Coombs and the Rathbone Strategic Bond Fund for Coombs and fixed income investment director, Bryn Jones.

Coombs also runs the Rathbone Strategic Growth Portfolio and the Total Return Portfolio, both which are available on an accumulation and income basis. Currently the Enhanced Growth Portfolio is only available with an income share type.

Webb concluded, "As is Rathbones’ practice, any new product will build on our proven expertise in multi-asset investing and will complement our current offering."
