Premier Miton has poached Emma Mogford from BNY Mellon Investment Management to replace UK equities manager Eric Moore on a trio of funds on which he had only built up a six-month track record.
Mogford (pictured) is the latest departure from the Newton global income team following the defection of Nick Clay and three of his team in March to RWC. She was lead manager of the BNY Mellon UK Income fund from November 2017 until September but was recently replaced by Ilga Haubelt and Jon Bell.
At Premier Miton she will become part of Gervais Williams’ equity team.
She will become lead manager on the Premier Monthly Income and Premier Income funds and co-manager on the Premier Optimum Income fund alongside Geoff Kirk.
In all three instances she replaces Moore who is exiting the business. He was only appointed to the funds in May following the exit of Chris White, who had overseen the funds since 2010. At the time, Moore’s appointment raised questions about whether the Premier Miton Income and Monthly Income funds would be merged.
Before focusing on the BNY Mellon UK Income fund, Mogford had been lead manager on the BNY Mellon Continental European fund from July 2015 to November 2018. Previously, she managed the Neptune UK Higher Income fund.
Premier Miton said in a press release that she would adopt “her own proven, disciplined investment approach”. This would include a focus on high quality, cash generative stocks with a focus on managing downside risk and ESG considerations. She will manage a concentrated portfolio.
Premier Miton has been hiring a number of fund managers this year.
In September, it unveiled two new fixed income products, the Premier Miton Strategic Monthly Income Bond and Financials Capital Securities funds. They will be run by Lloyd Harris and his team who joined in June after they were shunned by Jupiter in its acquisition of their former firm Merian Global Investors.
Also in June, Premier Miton announced it had recruited Aberdeen Standard Investments fund manager Alan Rowsell and analyst Imogen Harris to launch a global smaller companies fund. The pair joined the firm this month.
Last month, it also nabbed a trio of distribution hires from Legg Mason Asset Management.
