Simon Harrington joins the UK trade association for the personal investment management and financial advice sector next week.

He previously spent six years at government-backed multi-employer pension scheme the National Employment Savings Trust (Nest), first as a corporate affairs manager and then as a senior public policy adviser.

Prior to Nest, Harrington worked at the Asset Protection Agency as communications and governance manager and before that, at HM Treasury as a corporate communications officer between 2008 and 2010.

Liz Field, chief executive at Pimfa, said: “We continue to drive for a culture of savings and investments in the UK and Simon’s expertise in pensions will be invaluable in advancing this cause alongside creating an optimal operating environment for our member firms so they can focus on guiding individuals and families to build their personal financial futures.”

Harrington added: “I am looking forward to helping Pimfa develop its forward-looking agenda for advice and wealth management firms – ensuring that their best interests are well represented.

“Having come from a pensions background, I am acutely aware of the fundamental role the adviser industry needs to be playing in ensuring that individual savers are able to achieve the best outcome possible from their retirement savings.”

Pimfa was created earlier this year as the result of a merger between industry bodies the Wealth Management Association and the Association of Professional Financial Advisers.
