Pimco swoops on Société Générale commodities duo

Michael Haigh and Jules Penel will be based in firm’s London office

Pimco has hired Michael Haigh to the newly-created role of executive vice president and commodity and real asset strategist.

Based in London, he is tasked with helping the firm to meet expected demand from investors seeking to inflation-proof their investments.

Haigh joins after a 12-year stint at Société Générale, where he was managing director and global head of commodities research.

He was also previously global head of commodities research at Standard Chartered.

Jules Penel has made the move from Société Générale alongside Haigh, joining the firm as a quantitative research analyst with a focus on commodity markets.

As of the end of 2022, Pimco had $1.74trn assets under management.
